Our Mission

We hope to prove that our standardized model of Tier 1 veterinarian supervised non-anesthetic dental prophylaxis combined with intermittent anesthetized dental radiographs +/- prophylaxis should be the new standard of care for lifelong patient dental care plans. This model of care is significantly safer for the patient by decreasing exposure to anesthesia both in frequency and in time under on table. It is drastically more affordable for the client which allows for them to attain consistent, effective, and lifelong comprehensive dental care.

We believe our veterinarian designed and optimized model could and should be integrated into all veterinary practices across the nation. We want to make regular simple dental care affordable for our clients and anesthetic dental care safer for our patients. We want non-anesthetic dental prophylaxis to be offered early in a pets life to provide prevention and ongoing hygienic maintenance and have planned intermittent anesthetic procedures to obtain dental x-rays to screen for disease development. Non-anesthetic and anesthetic dentistry working together seamlessly should be the only way forward.

The Philosophy

We believe when we can come together collectively as veterinarians and achieve this mission, we will significantly change the health of the patient population at large by decreasing both oral and systemic disease incidence, improving every day comfort and quality of life, and in so doing prolong the lives of our patients. This can be achieved simply by prioritizing proper early onset preventative non-anesthetic dental cleaning and encouraging routine daily home care programs for our clients.

What We Know

We know that K9 Grillz Tier 1 non-anesthetic dental cleanings are both safe and very effective in properly screened patients. We also know that the current approach to anesthesia only veterinary dentistry is flawed and ultimately unsustainable as a truly effective approach to complete veterinary dental care. With the average price of anesthetized dental care in LA ~ $1000-$1500, we know that most clients cannot afford to put their pets under anesthesia once a year let alone twice a year. We also know that many clients are reluctant to put their animals under anesthesia due to misconceptions about the levels of risk associated with anesthesia. We know as veterinarians, we must always seek ways to decrease our patients exposure to anesthesia. We know that client education regarding the importance of home care is insufficient. When you look at all of this, it is easy to understand that the system requires change. We have a patient population that is suffering from varying degrees of preventable periodontal disease. We know that preventative non-anesthetic dental care is the answer.
